Founded in 2012, the Federal Theatre Project exists to bring free and affordable theatre to under-served populations within the Washington, DC area. Our productions focus primarily on American governance; that is to say, the political process. We focus on removing the mystery from politics and engaging young audiences in the political process early.

The Federal Theatre Project is non-partisan in its offerings. We strive to foster a sense of civic engagement, not a particular agenda.

In short, we want to get audience members to think, not tell them what to think!

One Year Later: Civic Engagement in the Era of Trump

In America’s current political climate, civic participation has become increasingly difficult to maintain. The reasons for this are as numerous as they are diverse.

-A crowded field of voices;
-Elected officials who shut down their phone lines;
-Town halls with empty chairs on the stage;
-A continuing loss of civility and rational discourse; and,
-The dwindling state of public education.

These are just some of the reasons that civic engagement can feel out of reach in 2017.  As a result, the Federal Theatre Project is proud to present our first new play festival: One Year Later: Civic Engagement in the Era of Trump.

In 2017, citizen engagement is on the rise, but accessibility has become more problematic. Join us as we examine plays from around the country that examine what it means to be "engaged" with governance and politics in today's climate.

Admission is FREE! RSVP's will have reserved seating. Remainder seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The house will open 30 minutes prior to curtain.

All performances will be at Spooky Action Theater, located at 1810 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC  20009. The building is the Universalist National Memorial Church. Street parking is available, and the theater is a short walk from the Dupont Circle metro (Red Line), U Street/Cardozo (Yellow and Green Lines).
